Jewellery Recap: 2023 Met Gala

One of the most anticipated fashion events of the year, the 2023 Met Gala, took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Celebrating the life of the late iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, this year’s exhibition was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.

Working under some of the world’s biggest fashion houses, including Chanel and Fendi, celebrities took to the red carpet dressed in designs honouring Lagerfeld’s fashion legacy. Leaving no room for disappointment, many A-list guests hit the red carpet in custom designs that paid homage to Lagerfeld’s iconic looks. But, of course, no look was complete without the sparkle of jewellery.

The Met Gala red carpet has continued to be a runway for some of the most extravagant jewellery pieces over the years. This year was no exception, with many stars dazzling in various jewellery designs.

Halle Bailey’s earrings are the perfect example. Ahead of her upcoming role in the live-action of Disney’s “Little Mermaid”, Bailey looked like a princess, wearing a beautiful lacey sequined white halter neck dress. The dangling diamond earrings complimented the dress’s neckline, creating the perfect balance.

Kendall Jenner was a vision in her sequined outfit. Going for a black and white sequined pant-less bodysuit, the model had a dramatic collar which she left uninterrupted by opting for a pair of stud earrings. With her hair pulled back into a ponytail, the oversized diamond stud earrings were the ultimate accessory to not overdo the reality star’s look.

Olivia Wilde went for a yellow-gold moment with her look for the event. A spin on a vintage 80’s design created by Lagerfeld, the actress and director went for an intricate pair of drop earrings to complement the yellow gold tone. With her hair out, it was the ultimate design to stand out in the heavy mix.

Irina Shayk looked radiant with her white gown and diamond combination. Wearing a silky white dress decorated with flowers along the neckline, the model chose a bold diamond necklace. The layered choker design featured several diamonds dropping off the bottom line, providing an undeniable sparkle to Shayk’s look.

Dua Lipa attended the event as a co-host, looking glamorous as ever with a standout diamond necklace. Wearing a white and black tweed ballgown, the singer took advantage of the low neckline, adding a breathtaking diamond necklace to her bare neckline. The true centrepiece of her look was a massive 100-carat diamond pendant on a diamond chain.

Anne Hathaway wore a daring tweed gown to the event, embezzled with gold and pearl safety pin details. Acknowledging the tones in the hardware details of her dress, the actress chose a glittering yellow gold and white diamond choker. It was a beautiful addition to her vintage ensemble.

Lizzo was as elegant as ever, dripping with pearls at this year’s gala. With a black gown draped in pearl accessories, the singer took her lustrous look to the next level with a wide assortment of pearl jewellery, including a stack of pearl bracelets. With her sleeveless dress, the heavy portion of bracelets was a great way to add interest and balance to Lizzo’s bare arms.

Florence Pugh made a true fashion statement as she entered the event. Going for a dramatic entrance, the actress wore a plunging white silk wedding-inspired gown, accessorising with a tall black wired feather hat and a stack of diamond bracelets. With the strapless dress exposing Pugh’s shoulders and arms, the diamond bracelets were given ample attention, sparkling for all to witness.

Rita Ora was another guest that went for a stacked bracelet look. Donning a dark gothic aesthetic, the singer-turned-actor looked gorgeous in her sheer dress with a long dramatic train. Breaking up her dark gown, Ora wore white and yellow gold chunky bangles stacked together on either arm. It added a dazzling mix of diamonds to her ensemble and some colour to her otherwise dark look.

Christina Ricci looked stellar on the Met Gala carpet, wearing a classy silvery gown and silver accessories to match. She opted for various ring designs, including a ring with heart-shaped diamonds and a stacker ring. More specifically, the actress wore a broad selection of diamond rings that contrasted her dark nails beautifully.

Sydney Sweeney went for a maximalist look at this year’s Met Gala, wearing a curve-hugging pink dress embellished in jewels, sequins and a black bow. While the Euphoria actress’s dress was dramatic, she chose a more minimalistic approach in picking jewellery to let the dress shine. A standout from her jewellery selection, Sweeney chose a classic range of diamond rings in various cuts.

Kim Kardashian wore another extravagant classic pearl design on the night, wearing a corset top and draped skirt connected by strands of pearls and diamonds. Hammering the theme home, the reality star and influencer completed the look with pearl and crystal designs. One of her jewellery collection’s biggest highlights was a staggering large diamond ring. The oval cut diamond stood out, holding its own among her bedazzled ensemble.
